CVS is great my parents used to go every Sunday and always did very well. The CVS little plastic card is great you can use it at any CVS you just have to tell them the phone number associated with it.

I write checks for all kinds of things but not in line at a market or store. Credit cards (not a debit card to be found in my collection) are great for that-fast, easy and protected. For larger, perhaps contractor jobs I like cash-so do the contractors and will often give a price discount.
Checks are great for church and haircuts, usually pre-filled out. Lawn service, housecleaning etc lend themselves to checks.
Coupons: I use digital coupons all the time when ordering stuff online on a products particular website. Before hitting the complete order button, I check online by searching for coupons of that particular company or store. Rarely strike out.

Two big differences between our countries - American retailers would accept cheques, but you always had to pre-pay for gas, Canadian retailers never accepted cheques, but we never had to pre-pay for gas. Pre-pay for gas isn't a big issue any more with debit and credit card systems on the pumps, but in the old days I hated it when paying in cash - you wait in line to pre-pay , then go back and wait in line to get your cash back.
