Default Coupons

Anybody else use coupons or am I a dying breed? I was thinking about it today I never see people using coupons anymore. I went to the grocery store and had a bunch of coupons I used, it cut my bill by about 40 percent. I bought a sandwich today at Subway and used a coupon. I'm getting my oil changed soon and will be using a coupon for that.

I do not use coupons. I don't know why. Well, there was this one time, I was in a long line at Albertsons. An older woman had this big old, rickety bag purse full of coupons. Like a year's worth. She went to retrieve some coupons and the bag let loose with the entire load onto the floor. Poor woman is cussing and flailing her arms. Such that no one could get close to her, let alone help her. She picks up each coupon, one-by-one. Refusing any help, even from the cashier or manager. 30 minutes later. Ever since that day...

Sorry, for the digression.

That would turn me off coupons too. I always get everything ready before I get to the cashier. I get grumpy with the people with the debit cards. Seems like it takes forever to get them to work. I put money in my pocket give it to the cashier and it's a done deal.

In my region of Canada we never get real coupons, they are so much more prevalent in the U.S. Our weekly flyers list sales in stores but they don't give you coupons . I sometimes see coupons come in the mail for McDonalds and Tommy Hilfiger that's about it. We get email offers and discount codes from some companies by not many old school coupons. I would use them if I could get them though, saving 40% or more is fantastic.

There are certain stores I don't go into without a coupon. Michael's is one. If I want a frame or something photo related I either check the sales flyer and/or print up one of their coupons. They can be overpriced. The grocery store we shop at has an online ap. Rick goes on the PC and does some of the "shopping" before he goes shopping. Enter your phone number at checkout and the savings show up. No paper coupons. I preferred the loyalty cards, though some of the savings on a monthly do add up. I was never very good with paper coupons. I use the loyalty card at CVS and/or Walgreens. Other stores send out mailings with discounts coupons. If I get a 30% discount from Kohl's I make a trip.

Oil changes for us are cheap. Retirement benefit, employee pricing at Rick's former place of employment.

My Subaru dealer has parts and service coupons on their website that I use. My local grocery store sends me coupons in the mail. They used to send coupons for random items but now they send me coupons for the items that I buy regularly which is great.

For groceries, maybe 1 or 2, very infrequently, if I happen to see the circular, AND happen to need something with the coupon. I find the circular goes from the mail box to the recycle bin in the garage before I even get to the house most weeks.

For the specialty stores, I do. But, like Lainey pointed out, these are different purchases, like 20, 30 40% off framing, or my $10 reward coupon or the quarterly sporting goods $20 off 100 type coupons. Cindy regularly waits and watches for coupons from Micheal's or Bed Bath and Beyond to get things that are relevant.

The car service coupons are frustrating. I just go, and say, I have it at home and they take off the 10% anyway.

Definitely Michaels and Kohls for me. Donna definitely uses for groceries and a few others.

Kohl's is big on coupons and the 'if you come back on a certain date you get 30 percent off' type deals between certain dates. Also one of those places if you go to an actual store you get a receipt that is about a mile long with deals on it.

What about people still writing checks? Processing by the cashier is quicker these days, but still..............
CVS is known for the mile long receipts with coupons to get you to spend more $. Generally speaking, i do pretty well at CVS with their coupons.
