Cremation
So....what do you think about cremation vs traditional burial? There are probably alot of thoughts about this in the Florida "God's Waiting Room"....
I'll start:
All 3 of Kathy and my departed parents were cremated, with the remains spread in one of their favorite places. My +1 and I will follow in this pattern....less expensive, no wasteful cemetery plots (turn 'em into golf courses?), no need for embalming, no expensive hearses, etc.
But I do have a couple of reservations
What do you think?

Thought we did this one before.
Anyway, my wishes are to be cremated and the ashes are to be spread on Doubleday field in Cooperstown. I originally wanted Yankee Stadium, but figured one day it would be the site of a parking lot or housing project (in fact, this week they announced that they want to build a new stadium across the street from the current one).

^ Yeah, I think we did, but it's been awhile. Anyway, I'm all for cremation. My parents are being cremated and I am, too. The only difference is that they will be at Arlington Cemetery and I will be scattered across Lake Ellis (named for my uncle) at Camp Bryan, a hunting and fishing club in Havelock, NC where I spent many happy days growing up. But it is a personal decision, and a religious one for some people.
I'm not having either done. I'm going with the Neptune Society's burial at sea. There's no embalming, or any other prep. They'll sew my carcass up in a canvas sack with some weights, haul me out into international waters, then dump me. I think it costs around $1000, but what do I care. I'm not paying the bill.
What reservations do you have about cremation?

There is no way I want to be planted! I want my left over remains to be burnt. However, before the left over parts are going to be burnt, I want to make sure the local medical college (U of R / Strong Hospital) takes every last spare part they can, to help someone still alive or for just testing. Once I'm done with this sack of flesh and blood I don't need it, nor do I see the need for it to take up a lot of space and give people a place to come and cry or come and place flowers.
Yesterday I gave blood for the 16th time, completing my 2nd gallon, now I'm ready to start working towards completing my 3rd. Because this is my frame-of-reference there is no way I could be burnt up without giving the medical profession a chance to take what they wanted first, I'll obviously be done with it...

Not far from where my dad is buried this Mercedes Benz monument sits.

It is truly amazing. The keyholes, tire valves, tread, writing on the tires, wipers, etc .... are all carved.
Anyone want an 'S'?

Were you watching Penn & Teller's Bull**it last night? They covered the subject of the 'Death Industry'. Fascinating stuff. The description of what really happens to a buried corpse makes me certain that that's not a respectful way to treat a body. Cremation is certainly a better option.
I had just mentioned to Virginija that if I die, she should pursue the very cheapest avenue of body disposal that she could find. If that meant having the local medical school cart me away for free, so much the better.
I respect those who feel a need for some physical memorial, like retaining the ashes, or spreading them at some favorite location, but personally, I'd rather be remembered for the person I was than the rotting carcass that I'll become.
