Well, it's definitely Topic A in this town right now - and will be for awhile. My guess is he wants to put his own spin on the story rather than leave it to Woodward, and perhaps make some money as well. He certainly held his secret long enough. To be cont'd....

Rob,
There is some speculation that he came "a half step forward" because he was "pissed" at being past over for the number one spot at the FBI after Herbert Hoover (who should be any liberal minded person's arch enemy #1) died.

Herbert Hoover??
It wasn't me who said Herbert Hoover. Thinking about it though, they might've been brothers.

I suspect the money has something to do with it. I suppose Felt's family would like to profit from the story. I wonder how long it's going to be before someone labels his daughter as a money hungry woman who forced her father to reveal his identity in order to profit from it. I'm sure that's the next step.

On Nightline last night they did mention that part of the motivation to come out was to potentially make some money to pay for the education of his grandchildren.
Can't really fault him for that.

I prefer not to think about whether he did the right thing or whether he did not. Only he knows his motives. I prefer not to even think about the horrible sadness and ugliness that the entire Watergate scandal brought forth. I simply would hope we learned something from this ordeal, but all these years later, I tend to think that people never learn from the errors of the past.

Rob, I heard on the radio that one or both of the reporters would not confirm or deny that Felt was deep throat. They said they had promised to keep quiet until DT was dead. Are you sure they confirmed it? Seems silly to me- they could just call him up and ask if they are "released" from their promise.
