Saturday night we watched Waiting (2005) starring Ryan Reynolds. Screwball yuks about waiting tables at a restaurant. Two folks who work in restaurants recommended it. Late night silly fare.
Sunday, we drove up to San Francisco to watch the "unrestored" print of 2001: A Space Odyessey. Shown in 70mm, with the Overture and Intermission music included as well. Having seen the movie at least 3 dozen times, there were no surprises there. . . but the visual saturation of the color, the scope of every shot blown up to big-screen size, and the richness of the score on analog in a giant old theater (The Castro Theater), it was perfect.

. . . but I should have assumed that Kubrick was that fastidious so as to have everything the viewer would see designed to a micron of its life.

Did anybody see Interstellar?
I recently watched it on a Netflix DVD and was surprised that I really like it. I even took it out of the sealed DVD return envelope to re-watch it before I returned it.
Interstellar is a 2014 epic science fiction film directed, co-written, and co-produced by Christopher Nolan. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine. Set in a dystopian future where humanity is struggling to survive, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of a new home for humanity.
In Earth's future, a global crop blight and second Dust Bowl are slowly rendering the planet uninhabitable. Professor Brand (Michael Caine), a brilliant NASA physicist, is working on plans to save mankind by transporting Earth's population to a new home via a wormhole. But first, Brand must send former NASA pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and a team of researchers through the wormhole and across the galaxy to find out which of three planets could be mankind's new home.
CAST
Matthew McConaughey as Joseph "Coop" Cooper
Anne Hathaway as Dr. Amelia Brand
Jessica Chastain as Murphy "Murph" Cooper
Matt Damon as Dr. Mann
John Lithgow as Donald
Michael Caine as Professor John Brand
Casey Affleck as Tom Cooper

We watched Maudie, a heartwarming awesome true story about a Canadian folk art painter. The lady who plays Maud is great.
