Discussion and review of Good Movies
Honk for Jesus-Save Your Soul-AMC Theatres were offering a special $3.00 admission promotion for the Labor Day weekend so Liz, my son Andrew and I decided to take advantage of it and go to the movies. Originally we wanted to see "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (Liz is a big fan of the Minions and I find the movies entertaining) but the 4:30 showing was sold out except for two seats in the first row so we opted to see "Honk for Jesus. Save your Soul" instead. We were 3 of 7 people in the theatre.
The movie attempts to tell a story in a comic/documentary fashion that very badly needs to be told. Unfortunately, it misses the mark. It is neither funny nor a very good documentary. The only redeeming features of this movie are the performances of Regina Hall as Trinitie Childs and Sterling K Brown as Lee-Curtis Childs. Both, but especially Regina Hall's performances are very, very good. Much better than the movie. Both of them deserve to be in movies that are as good as their talents.
Throughout the movie I couldn't help but think of Tammy and Jim Bakker and how much could have been said. Throughout the movie I was hoping for more but except for the two lead performances, I was disappointed. Granted this was the first movie written, produced and directed by the Ebo sisters, and it was based on a short feature that they had done for a film festival so I think the Ebo sisters may very well produce better films in the future, but this wasn't one of them.
The movie was 1 hour and 47 minutes long. Unless you have an hour and 3/4 to kill and can get $3.00 admission tickets see something else. Of course, you might want to see it to see the excellent performances of Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown, but there are probably better movies to see them in.

I enjoy it when I stumble on a really good movie. These are all from Netflix. The one I am referring to is Red Joan, a British movie based on a true story about WWII and the nuke age. A really good story. Two others watched were teenage love stories, but they couldn’t have been any different if they had tried. The first was The Notebook mentioned earlier about poor boy and rich girl in the South and the second was If Beale Street Could Talk, about two black kids falling in love in Harlem in the 70s. I thought both were very good with some common parallels in their beginnings.
The Poison Rose was another one I watched. I can't recommend it.

Watched a movie called Vault from 2019. It was about 2 small time crooks who robbed what was the Mafia's central bank in Providence R.I. It starred Theo Rossi, Chaz Palminteri, Don Johnson, I really enjoyed it. It was a true story over 30 million dollars was stolen and never recovered.
Robb, I don't know about others but I never want to know about an ending if I haven't seen the movie. On the other hand, if I had known what the ending would be on the foreign film we watched last night on Netflix, Loving Adults, I would not have watched what was otherwise a very good movie . . .
