Default Do you like the beach?

I do, especially the Jersey shore. But, I burn quickly, and I usually don't have the patience to sit for more then one or two hours.

Still, I like the ocean, the waves and the water. We don't get to the shore too often, a few times a summer, but thats usually enough.

We generally go to Wildwood or Point Pleasant in NJ and once in a while Jones Beach in NY.

How about you? Do you like the beach? Which one?

See my post in the Vacation Thread. We love the beach, but not the "shore", as you Jerseyites call it. The REAL beaches are in North and South Carolina. This picture was taken last week on Ocracoke Island, NC, a part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. No development, no beach fees, no crowds, warm water (the Gulf Stream is just off-shore), and best of all, you can drive on the beach and sip on a Corona as you please. And, you can only get there by ferry or private plane.

Yup! Who doesn't enjoy the beach? Unless you're the kind of person who just shuns nature in general.

The only thing I could do without is tracking sand into the car afterwards. It seems that no matter how much I try to clean myself off, I still get sand in the car.

Jukngene, the water is definitely warmer on the east! The Pacific Ocean can be quite chilly most of the time, but just sitting out on the sand and soaking up the rays can be just as rewarding. Plus, I'm a little scared of the sea because I'm not that great of a swimmer.

Denise and I don't mind it but we can't take it for long periods of time because we get bored. During all our vacations we alternated the beach with activities. 1 day relax on the beach, next day some type of activity.

But I did spend 5 weeks on a beach in on the Adriatic sea in Italy in the past....never have I been more relaxed then after that.

I love the beach and only live 9 blocks away, but I hardly ever go. I drive up and down the coast almost daily for fun, but the beaches here in Southern Ca. are getting so polluted, it's disgusting.

Last time I walked on the sand near the water on Malibu beach, my feet got completely covered in black tar. (that smelled just like motor oil btw... that's where it goes when folks pour it down the storm drain )

It's a shame because we have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world here. The bike path is as far as I get now.

You'd think, being fifteen miles from a beautiful Florida beach, I'd visit it more. Guess I just don't like going alone. Kinda like living in Chicago for 34 years and not doing any touristy stuff. That's all for the out-of-towners.

Pic is of Pensacola Beach during Spring break last year.

I lived for 15 years in a rundown hulk of a place with a terrific view of King Harbor in Redondo Beach, CA. Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches were just down the way and cruising on a bicycle or rollerskates was the way to get around. I think I was nuts to leave.

I'd rather go to a fresh water lake than the salty ocean. But any day at the beach is better than a day at work.

I hang out on the carribean beaches whenever possible. Something about that crystal clear, warm, turquoise water that gets me every time. Should be on another one in about 72 hours. Report to follow.

I love the water period. Whether on it, in it, or by it! Pool, river, lake, ocean, anything. Sunning, sailing, swimming...Used to go to the beach every summer, mainly to the Outer Banks or Emerald Isle in NC, just south of Morehead City. Also been to beaches on some of my travels to Hawaii, Bermuda, the Carribean, Italy and Portugal and other states in the U.S. Pretty cold swimming in the Pacific, though.

Stopped going to NC when I bought a house on a lake here and could spend time right out back. It was wonderful. Really miss that sometimes. Headed to Va Beach for a Mid-A event in June, so will get in some fun in the sun then.
