Doing something you think is right
Alrighty then, I just got an HD DVD player (plays Blu-Ray and HD DVD). I wanted to be an early adopter (spent allot of $$$$ just to have it now syndrome). Everything was running smoothly until last night. Suddenly no more Dolby Digital, only Pro Logic (no center channel, no subwoofer, no rear channels). I tried everything to no avail.
So I am online looking to see if I can pick up a replacement local rather than do the ship it out, wait for credit, buy a new one. I want to fix this now. I found a single unit in Saugus and started a frantic search for the packing list/receipt. Now I have had this less than a week and I cannot find the darn thing. I finally printed a new one online. Now, I go down stairs, start everything up, still no Dolby Digital. Dang there is something wrong, I have to replace it, what a hassle.
Then I open the manual (which next time will be the first thing I do). I read the audio instructions and it was pretty specific about initializing the digital connection (something I evidently did before but changed). I reset the line item SPDIF to Bitstream instead of PCM and voila, I have Dolby Digital again.
I feel so stupid. Why did I not open the manual in the first place and go over my settings?
This was a particular panic on my part because I have never paid over 1k for a dvd player and the +1 was all over me on it and now it does not work right. LOL teach me to second guess myself. Next time, remember to leave well enough alone. Hehe

Oh, I've said that to myself a zillion times!!!! I now sit down with my manual whenever I buy anything. Sadly though, some of those manuals were written by engineers who do not speak English so they're difficult to understand (at least they're difficult for me to understand
).
Hey, I'm still trying to read the manual for that little car of ours. You should have seen my trying to put my new windshield wipers on by myself. The first thing the instructions on the wiper said was to consult your manual to remove the old one. I panicked because I couldn't remember the last time I saw mine. Glad things worked out in the end, Snake.
