Actually Lainey Lard is not a trans fat. it's just good old fashioned rendered pig fat. Think of it as a 'natural' product.

Trans-fats are chemically modified fats which have a different geometry than conventional fats. This different geometry gives them a different test result when they test for calories making them "lower fat". Of course all kinds of issues are being discovered with these compounds.
I won't discuss the most famous side effect in a donut thread.

I can have one, but more than that and I feel like I have a lead weight in my stomach.

Every time we leave to fish the glades, it's Dunkin Donuts at Dawn.... One of those big square jugs of coffee and a dozen asst.

You can fish all day on that.

ps you can't make Cuban bread without using lard....

If someone brings them to a meeting then I can't resist. But I never buy them myself.

Everything in Moderation, and that includes donuts. Your stomach doesn't know the difference between a donut or a banana or a beer; afterall, it's all about total calories per day.

OK. I confess. Every time I go to Donut Derelicts I have two Cinnamon twists or an apple fritter. (Make sure that Mike Dailey has gotten his before you take the last two cinnamon twists).

As far as other donuts, all we have around here besides the grocery store offerings is Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme. I seem to be losing my taste for Dunkin' and I have always thought that those gooey air bags from Krispy Kreme are just plain nasty.
