Doo Wop
Boy do I love those old songs!
They were on our PBS station again last night and even tho I had already seen the show - and I think the money begging runs waaaaaaaay tooooooo long - I still had to sit through it.
Perhaps every generation feels this way but I feel so fortunate to have grown up in the 50/60 era with the whole birth of Doo Wop and R&R plus all those great cars, both foreign and domestic. Times were simple. People all had dreams but they didn't have everything handed to them on a platter. Anything seemed possible. The songs, love not hate, of that time just seemed to tie it all together. I suspect my three children all know these songs better than they do ones from their own time. Who would have guessed that people would still be identifying with and listening to those songs 50+ years later. Admittedly, I have noticed it is much harder to find an oldies station on the radio in the past couple years, at least locally.

I agree with you that everybody talks about today's music and yet all you hear on television is commercials using the lyrics from the 50's and 60's. As far as radio stations get yourself an XM and enjoy 24/7.

I love some of the new stuff, though. I realllllly enjoy almost all of Coldplay's stuff and the Verve among others.
I have no clue who the current muscial artists are. Rick does a better job of paying attention. Sometimes we'll hear something on the radio that I like and I ask him who it is. He almost always knows.
If I like a song that I hear, I'll check it out on Amazon, and maybe even purchase a CD. What I don't like is that sometimes you get a sample or two and you really like the song. So you buy the CD and end up liking only 1/2 of it, as the remainder of the songs you couldn't sample are hard rock or something not to your liking.

I know exactly what you mean. I looked at all of Coldplay's cds and generally like most of the songs. Fortunately now you can usually go to their websites and listen to a sample of most of the songs to see if you like the cd before you buy it. I'm hoping at least one of the children gets me a Coldplay cd for Christmas. I'm dying to get A Rush of Blood to the Head because it has Clocks (one of my faves) on it. Another cd I'd like to have is Yellow2. I love the song Yellow -- their music reminds me of some of Dylan's stuff from back in the "day."

Coldplay - never heard of 'em. I'll take the Skyliners or 5 Satins.

I love doo wop too.
Those Oldies But Goodies (Reminds Me Of You)
Little Caesar and the Romans
Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you
The songs of the past bring back memories of you
I always remember the first night we met
The songs they were playing I never will forget
I always will treasure them so close to my heart
They always will haunt me although we're apart
Each time that I hear them a tear's bound to fall
For I love those memories that I, I-I recall
Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you
The songs of the past bring back memories of you
Forever they will haunt me but what can I do?
Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you
(Oldies but goodies reminds me of you)
SPOKEN: "Yes, dear, they are playin' our songs. And they will always remain our
songs. And each time you hear them, I hope you, too, will cherish the wonderful
memories that our love once knew. For these songs are just a symbol of the
love that I had for you."

Listen to a song like "Good Night, Sweetheart, Good Night". Or "In the Still of the Night".
The sounds the group makes in the background is where the term DooWop comes from.
