My prayers go out to his family during this time. I know you knew them well so my prayers are also with you during this time. May he rest in peace.

I am not a "religious" person. And being a libertarian I often disagreed with the Rev. Falwell's views on the roll of government in our daily lives.
That said, I still had tremendous respect for the man. He was a true believer who never backed down from his principles, at least as far as I know. He was also a man who held great power but used it in moderation and was one of those rare leaders who could admit a mistake. And, of course, he was one of the few really successful 20th century evangelists who didn't always have his hand in other peoples' pockets or other body parts where they didn't belong.
I can't help but think that perhaps his end, quick and (hopefully) gentle, was a reward by his Maker for a life well lived.

He was visionary! I was not a Falwell fan until several years ago when I had the opportunity to hear him speak. I went to the meeting with much suspicion and a bad attitude. By the time he was finished I was a fan.
I learned to admire him for his vision and diligence to stand when so many tried to demonize him. Of course over the centuries the critics often have tried to silence the voice of those who proclaim accountibility to a lifestyle with boundaries.
His voice will be missed but his vision will continue!!
