Default the draft

I probably should've just posted this in the Vintage forum, since I'm seeking real insightful feedback... and not just a bunch of kids randomly voting ... but I would be curious as to the Vintage opinion.

will there be a draft?

Yes, I think it will be.

Coincidentally, there is an article in today's N.Y. Times about how recruitment into the National Guard has fallen 30% below expectations.

I would be willing to bet that the draft will be reinstated in the near future.

Ha Ha The liberals would love you to think there's a draft coming....Remember the stuff that came up during the campaign...

Charlie Rangel liberal NY socialist incarnate tried to introduce a draft legislation bill and blame Bush.

Bush seems to be doing it the right way..by offering more money for enlistment and relenlistment bonuses to both the regular army and the guard.

I like his approach.
Be interesting to see if it works.

Although I think that it's probable if the current enlistment trends continue, I wouldn't expect the draft to be reinstated without this administration making some noise about it first to gauge/buffer public reaction. I don't think that GW is enough of an arrogant moron to think that a sudden announcement without any preliminary dialog would be well received.

I don't think there will be a draft. The really interesting issue to me is, assuming at some point in the future a draft is necessary, will it include women? I don't believe the public will stand for women being drafted, but I think there will lawsuits galore if women aren't included.

I think there will be lawsuits either way.

Really? Geez Dean, I have to disagree with you on this.

I think that there will be no choice, and a draft will be necessary, just to keep "our interests" in Iraq let alone any other expeditions that might come up.

I would be extremely surprised if a draft was implemented. The only time Bush has even said the word draft is to disspell the notion that one was imminent.

I think it would be political suicide (for the Republicans) to institute one for what is going on in Iraq - the cause just isn't popular enough.

Another Hitler arises, then my answer changes.

Sorry to post in the Vintage Forum, but I am certainly young enough to be included in the draft and am curious to hear others' opinions.
