Well that's pretty annoying right there.

Frankly I am not surprised. People can't be dying left and right and nothing done about it. We've had two motorcyclist from within 50 miles of my home in Michigan that died there this year in seperate accidents.

Clearly the cops went Way Overboard according to all the mail accounts.

But on the other hand the site did report this too:

"While these 14 Troopers were here:
Friday 11 am, Meigs TN, 45 miles from the Dragon - Two pick-ups collide, one driver dead
Saturday Morning, Bledsoe TN, 65 miles west of the Dragon

I'll be at the dragon for DBR07...Probably only make one trip down and back but I want to drive it just to say I have, if for no other reason. We will be doing lots of driving up in NC on roads where enforcement is reasonable.

As far as fatalities and enforcement on the dragon goes, I think its just politics. The dragon is a relatively dangerous stretch of highway. We had "bloody 98" (Hattiesburg, MS to Mobile, AL) for years and the death toll on that road was much higher than the dragon...mostly because of farm vehicles and logging trucks. But I still drove it when going to Mobile because it was a couple hours vs. almost four hours taking an alternate 4 lane route. They finally four-laned 98, btw...which was the real fix for improved safety.

Sadly...65 miles away from The Dragon seems to constitute "The Dragon"... All of it is senseless. Figure to clog up all our Interstates with 1-cop-per-mile-of-road as well if we're going to make "pure show of strength" be the measuring tape for lowering traffic-related fatalities...

I for one am extremely saddened to see the pervasive presence (not to mention the overt lawlessness of the cops themselves) on The Dragon. Disappointing to say the least.

Tail of the Dragon's home page presently has some of the best skinny on how the TN patrol are ruining 129. Be sure to check out just how well 'the men in blue' stick to their own side of the road while you're at it
