You might have to invite Brian over to keep the male/ female ration fair and square. Hey, maybe a fix-up is in order.....

Ellen, if you are truly anxious about flying, ask your doc for a little Xanax or Valium....just do not drink with those drugs.

I have a friend who hated to fly. BUT she wanted to go somewhere and a plane flight was required. She got herself some Valium, added some wine during the flight, and her sisters practically had to "pour" her off of the plane. I think she still uses this method whenever she flies.

You have a sense of adventure. You'll be looking around too much to see what's going on, to have time to be scared.

I generally read on a plane, but not until we have reached the full altitude. Also, keep your seatbelt on at all times (I think that was mentioned elsewhere), just in case they hit a little bump but don't be afraid to walk around a bit and stretch your legs. If there is a movie available, they may charge a few bucks for the head set. Pay the rental fee, the movie or TV on a plane helps to pass the time.

When you change planes, if you are not sure where to go, just ask...at other times, like when it's time to to get your baggage, just follow the crowd.

Thanks Lainey. I'm more afraid of the airport than the plane at this point So taking valium would probably not help me concentrate in finding how to get my tickets and finding the airplane

I'm on the plane to WHERE? Hello Patty, slight change in plans!

And I don't have a doctor in town so I'd have to drive 2 hours to see her, big PITA. I'll be OK once I get thru the checkin process.

Do I check my bag before I do the ticket thing? I have e-ticket which Patty says I need to enter in the "self check in" place to get tickets.

At least my car will be safely parked while I am gone

I'm not sure. We haven't flown in almost two years and so much has changed.

Some airports allow you to check your bag at the curb....they will put a tag on it with you final destination. Gotta tip the guy if you check your bag outside.

Once you get inside the terminal, just look for a counter with the name of your airline, and work from there. Auto check in, e-ticket check in...it was all new to us last time and I'm sure it's changed since.

Inside the airport can be "challenging" just allow yourself plenty of time.

You check in, they'll take your bag, give you your boarding pass, then you go through security (you need your ticket and ID at this point) and find your gate. After that, most of the hassle is over. Can you get your boarding pass on line the night before? Do they still allow that?

The flight attendants will likely make an announcement as you near landing telling you which gate to go to for your connecting flight. That's when you pray that your luggage is taken off one plane and loaded to the next. On your flight in LA, they'll also announce where to get your baggage.

You're only going for a few days, can't make do with carry on suitcase?

If you think you want to have medication on hand, just in case, call your doc, explain the situation, I'm sure she could call a limited supply into a local pharmacy.

^^ I think the 2:1 ratio is just fine.

At least I can watch!

I had cameras aimed at the Jacuzzi installed while Patty was gone. That windmill next to the 'cuzzi came in handy!

Thanks Lainey This is why I need 2 days to pack Not because of all the stuff I'm packing! I am STILL hoping that everything will all fit into one "right sized" overnight bag.

I do need to bring my laptop also, which is bulky (time for the buz to buy one of those cute 12" 'travel sized' laptops). And not sure I can live with the 3 oz fluid restrictions they give you and all of them fitting into one quart bag. I got bags and they are not very big!

I'm just going to play dumb (not hard at all lately) and tell everyone who looks at me like I'm stupid that it's my first time flying
