Enjoy fun while you can

Weather was overcast today but a nice day to drive. Only about 71. Yes, Val, keep in touch from SC.
John - do you know anyone in New Bern? I've spent a lot of time there over the years. My niece lives there now.

Yea! Can't wait to see you guys.
It has been a bit of a tough summer -- Jim may be delayed on the trip due to the flareup of an old football injury from his youth. His knee is causing some probs so he may have to see an orthopedist. He's trying to decide whether to see his gp here for a referral or see one in SC. I figure the guys in SC have more experience with the retiree set so he should go down there. We're working on that decision.

On Saturday afternoon I took the S for a drive after stopping at the Burger King cruise in. No pictures posted this week for two reasons. One is that there was nothing there that I have not already posted that was of any real interest.
Anyway, I got to take one of my favorite routes that I learned from George (while on the way back from laying out the route for SF05) that runs north up over Weather Mountain near Paris, VA. Then south again from RT 7 along the Shenandoah River back to US RT 50. On these roads if the S does not put a smile on your face you are either "dead" or "just really do NOT like cars".
Last night, on the way home from visiting some friends we drove down I-95 south of Baltimore, MD, then around the north west end of the Capitol Beltway and then west on I-66, we had to put the top up because it started to rain. Then it started to pour down rain. As I only have 3,500 miles on a fresh set of S-02's (thankfully) even though we were on an Interstate highway the car was a thrill to drive every mile of the way even though I never exceeded 70 MPH. Most of the other traffic was creeping along way under the speed limit. But the S with it's solid feed back was a JOY to drive even in those conditions. I LOVE this car.

[QUOTE=S2KCDN,Sep 7 2009, 12:29 PM] I have had a blast this summer. Our summer has been the driest and warmest in 50 years. Almost 10,000 km's so far. I drive "Precious" out to my job site on Westside Rd every chance I get. It is a 25 km blast of pure pleasure. It is a windy twisting road without much traffic but one does have to watch out for mountain sheep and deer.
This spring I put 18" ultraleggras with 265/18 & 245/18 Dunlop Deirzia Star Spec's on

I took my neighbor out for a spin in the S. He always talks about his rides on his bike and how he feels great afterwards. When we got back to the house, I asked him how his experience riding his motorcycle compared with riding with me in the S. Needless to say, I believe that he had to air out his shorts. His hair was askew and he seemed to on the brink of going into shock. So much for impressing the neighbors. Oh and by the way, I was wearing my Tomcatt Memorial Meet T-Shirt, the one showing the S entering heaven!
Glenn, did your neighbor wear his helmut for the ride
Your story reminds me of how all the Harleys were holding me up on the Dragon a few weeks ago :

Barbara: +1 is in Frederick, MD, and I'm picking her up Tues or Wed next week and head for Elizabeth City, NC. Really no firm schedule yet.
Batguano: Forgot all about the Dragon Run going on the weekend after next. Registration is closed. We'll only be in the area for one day, likely Fri or Sat. I will stop at Fontana to check out the gathering and perhaps join in on a few runs, prior to departing the area. Not planning to crash the party or stay.
Debbie: We went through the New Bern area once in the early 80s. This time, I'd like to spend a bit more time in the area and the nearby coast before heading inland and doing SC 9 and 11 on the way to Helen, Georgia. I don't know anything about the town except for what I have heard, nor do I know anyone there.
Dean: We usually do Florida only in the winter months. We might make it to C F later in Feb or early in March, around the Daytona Bike Week days. We are only doing 5-6 days this time around.

New Bern is a nice area. Many retirees relocate there, which is what my niece and her hubby did a few years ago (he retired from the AF). They really love it. Two rivers (the Neuse and Trent) come together and flow out into the sound and ocean only about 30 miles away. So great for boating, fishing, etc. Unfortunately, the pace of life is just too slow for me. So we'll be visiting only for the foreseeable future.
