Default Finally bought a Ferrari

I've been looking for this one for over 40 years - - really.

It cost $200 but that's a lot less than the real thing that sold for $9.3 million last year. This is the 1962 LeMan's winner that I saw up close and personal in the pits during practice, with a couple cool photos as well. I have the program signed by Phil Hill, one of the two drivers.

I have had a 1/24th scale sports car collection throughout those 40 years and I have looked for this in every model store I ever went in.

This one is a limited production resin model. I'm hoping it will be here tomorrow before we leave for SF.

I saw a pre-production write up on this Red Line model in a magazine called Sports Car Market, which a friend gave to me to read.

Previously (over 10 years ago) a similar model sold in kit form for $300 and as a factory build for $600. Even so, those models were not nearly as accurate as the one I just bought.

I used to pay $6-$15 for the plastic kits and spend endless hours detailing. Then I transissioned into doing metal kits, and finally buying die casts because they withstand the test of time best and the detail in the pricey ones is unreal.

Boys and toys...... still play with cars.

Dave, a few years ago I found that car in Germany in 1/43 scale. I also got a matching '62 250 GTO. I hope you can bring it to SF! Most of my models are 1/18, but I have gotten several 1/43s, because they are not made in 1/18 or 1/24.

Jim, as you may know there was a long dry spell for 1/24th. Other than Franklin mint, the scale went out of fashion except for cheap Maisto and Burago. I have no problem with the cheaper die cast as some are very nice, although lacking good detail and often with crappy paint. However 1/24th is making a comeback with China leading the way.

I've seen pictures of the 1/43rds by Red Line you have and they look nice.

I collect MGAs and S2000s in all sizes but 1/24 is my 'sweet scale'.

There are some cars that I've wanted for soooooo long I will be buy them in a different scale. Recently I bought a Triumph Stag and a 97 green F150 pickup in 1/18 (since I've owned both).

Red Line also makes the 1961 winning LeMans Ferrari of Hill in 1/24th but I can't bring myself to spend another $200 this quickly (I was there for that win as well).

Another car I've looked for all these many many years is a first generation Triumph Spitfire in 1/24th. I have it in 1/43rd and crappy later year version in 1/18. If anyone ever sees a Spitfire in 1/24, do let me know.

We are leaving for SF in AM and UPS delivers here in PM, so even I won't see it before.

Before I saw Lainey's post I was wondering to myself if Dave was going modify the interior arm rest so it would be more comfortable? Then I saw Lainey's post and realized that she "could" probably just about fit in it!

Modify a Ferrari. Shame, shame . . . . that's what S2000s are for.

Jim, I ment to ask... did you buy those models because, well just because, or did they have some other meaning to you?
