Default First minor mishap since detailing

Law of averages and Murphy are alive and well. I had my first minor mishap in the 8 years I have been detailing vehicles in Lewes. I picked up a customers vehicle and got blinded by the early morning sun as I was driving back to my house (business location). I hit a small metal sign (pedestrian crossing) on the center line of a very narrow road in town. Glad it wasn't a pedestrian. I stopped and looked and the sign put a small (size of a quarter) hole in thew lower front bumper. No damage to the front cameras. The piece of plastic was hanging by a thread so I taped over it in case it could be reattached. The owner is Sam Calagione, the owner of Dogfish Head brewery (that good beer down here and everywhere else) and his vehicle is a 2011 Mercedes R350, yeah the biggest SUV MB makes. I called Sam and gave him the bad news. I told him I have business insurance and would take care of it. He was so cool, he said accidents happen so just detail it, bring it back and we will discuss. I told him no charge for the detail for the inconvenience and he refused saying the detail is separate from the repair so don't beat yourself up. We are in the claim processing stage now. And, he asked me to detail his 2015 Dodge Challanger (big block) vehicle tomorrow. I was so relieved as I thought he would really be pissed, what a great guy. I won't be driving by that sign tomorrow.

Sometimes Sh*t happens. Glad he was cool about it and isn't that why you've been paying insurance all these years?

I totally understand how you feel, but that is indeed why you carry insurance. That guy must be a super person. Great attitude.

Thanks. He really is a special person which is why his employees love him. I pay $18/month for insurance which covers this, no brainer. His wife just called and said she loves her "new car" said it looked beautiful, and not to worry about the boo boo. I feel much better now. Thanks for the kind words.

Great Brewery to visit and I love the beer. My brother in law was the Mayor of Milton a few years back.

I echo Ray's comments about Sam. Everything I have ever heard about him is that he is a really nice, fair guy. Plus, he has put Delaware on the map with his "off-centered ales." http://www.dogfish.com/

We stayed overnight in Lewes when we went to Cape May with you guys. A lovely quaint village! Loved the place.
