Default First speeding ticket in years.

Well, I got back from traffic court, unsuccesful in my bid to beat a ticket. I got the hearing officer to drop it down to a 10 mph infraction, but that was all. Saves me $140 on the ticket, but now I will have to pay more for car insurance. I could have appealed, but chose not to. Just too much time and effort to go through this, and I have to admit that 10 MPH over was about right.

I really dislike the sort of speed trap they used to catch me. They hit you as you leave a 35 MPH zone, just before you enter a 45 MPH zone. You are looking at the sign that says 45 when they hit you with the lazer. The road is two lanes in each direction both before and after the change in speed, so there really is no visible cue that the speed should change. I suppose it could be worse. they could be set up on the 35 side and hit the folks who are just enetering from the 45 side.

There were plenty of people appealing. Most walked out looking down. I think cities and towns need this money more than ever.

So anyway, this got me wondering how all my vintage buds have fared as late? Get any tickets lately? did you fight them? How'd that work out for you?

It’s just a matter of time for me before I get one. I haven't had one since 1992. A NY State Trooper got me descending a mountain road, coming back from Toronto.

I doubt your insurance will increase. My +1 got one last year just outside of Cincinnati and I didn't see any increase in our premium. That was her first ticket ever.

I agree. It costs money for the insurance company to pull your record. If you have been a good customer, they won't go looking for the ticket. If you decide to shop for insurance with another company, they will look up your record and find it.

I've had several tickets through out my driving history. Not one has caused an increase in premium.

I was stopped for 10mph over a couple of years ago. The trooper knocked it down on the spot to an obstructed license plate. The state still got their tax out of me, but no points on my license. All they care about is the revenue.

Too bad that it didn't happen in your sister city of Philadelphia.

LINK explains that all but one of the many Traffic Court Judges were thrown out and the Peeay Senate has abolished the court...pending re-consolidation or whatever. Seems there was a little issue of ticket-fixing...

NOTE: The Ken Miller cited is not OUR Ken Miller...unless he moved to Peeay w/o notice

One ticket for 10 over should not increase your insurance - especially if you've been with them for a period of time.

I can't remember when I last got one but it was in town when I wasn't 'on guard' because everyone speeds there.

Well, here in Mass you get a safe driver credit if you are ticket/accident free for a certain number of years. If you get a ticket, you lose the discount. It will probably take me 6 years to get the discount back. If it costs me $200 a year for the two cars I have registered in the Massachusetts system, then that will cost me $1200 over six years. If i get another ticket during the firsst three years, I will then be hit with a surcharge. No matter what they call it, it costs me money.

Do you throw them parties, or do you throw them in jail?

I got one last year for 80 in a 55. Court was busy. Court Clerk interviewed everyone before court to reduce the number of cases that actually had to be heard. Court Clerk had the authority to drop the 80 to 65. Fine remained the same but it did not get reported to the state. Ticket was written by a State Trooper and resolved in city court. Sometimes I really like Georgia.
