We'll be there for dinner on Friday! We're not pickey eaters, anything from junk to 4 star. Just good company is all we need.

I'm with Lainey, on the simpler fare.

My plane gets into Hartford at 5:08 PM, and then I have an hour or so drive. I'll probably be too late, after a shower, to join in any dinner plans.
Oops. Nevermind this post. I was thinking Nor'Easter. I don't have my flights booked yet for Gettysburg.

My first question is to Ken and Jerry. How far are the three (or four) places listed in Ken's post above from the hotel.

My second question is to the group. Do we really need three choices? I think two would be fine. A so-called "simple faire" place, and a more upscale place. Upscale seems to be Sydneys. Simple faire seems to have a couple of options, the diners or the italian place. If, however, simple means reasonably priced, then maybe it is only the diners. I'm happy with any choice on this list, so I suggest the following.

1. Sydneys is the upscale choice.

2. Those who want the simpler faire, tell us if you want the diner or the Italian.

3. Only if we cannot fit all interested parties into two establishments should we open this up to a third place.

I've decided to not even think about where I'm going to eat dinner in October until after the Nor'easter. After discussing this with +1, we've decided to get to the hotel first and concern ourselves about what/where/whether we want to have dinner after that.

Sidney's is about 18 miles from the hotel in East Berlin (you don't need a passport).
Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&ie=U...berlin,+pa&om=1
Our cottage in right under the 'a' in the word Hamilton on the Sidney's map. We could have a 'take out' option for folks that want to go there

gravel road for the last few hundred yards= no low riders or Lainey Lips

The one thing you won't have to worry about will be "gourmet" food in the Gettysburg area (you have to go to Philly for that). Of the three restaurants/diners listed, here's how I'd put them:

1. Simple Option: Cross Keys or Lincoln Diner. Straightforward hamburgers/meatloaf/'blue plate' specials. Coffee/softdrinks. May or may not have beer.

2. Scozzaro's Old Mill Inn- Cozy smaller place w/ bar next to dining room. Red-sauce Italian. Nothing that your 6 year old grandkids can't handle. Familiar Italian dishes. No surprises.

3. Sidneys: More contemporary, 'upscale' dining. For the more adventurous. Modern American.
More important info points for folks' consideration:
A few more anecdotal comments to supplement Ken's nice summary:

Sidney's: I'm waiting for info via Tom717...they are willing to do a 3-choice/ 3 course GG* dinner for us, BUT will need a reservation a couple weeks in advance--> this means NO DROP-INS . NOTE that the cost for this may be as much as $40-50/ pp....more if you want a schmancy vino (altho Ken will probably buy for everyone....he's very magnanimou$ )

**Group Gourmet

Scozzaro's: They have an *early bird* (seated by 6) here that can be less than $10 (as Plant Pixie can guess, we've done this many times). In any event, most meals should be less than $20/ pp....max $25 for a glass of house wine with your pasta. They do have a liquor license and there is a thru-door to the bar on the west side of the bldg. They will be busy on a Friday night and, again, a reservation would be required .....especially if there was a large group interested here. This is not a big place....total dining room is probably no more than (15) 4-person tables. I believe they told Ken earlier that a large group could only be accommodated at 8 pm....maybe 9? Do you remember, Ken?

Crosskeys Diner: I agree with Ken that this is the better 'diner' option....it has a large parking lot Don't be scared off....they have a large dining room and very good food....albeit NOT gourmet. Huge menu with lots of choices....good homemade pies. The tab here might be $10/pp and max $15/pp. I don't believe that they have a liquor license.

Get on it, Patty. You have no excuse for missing this one!

I hear someone even offered you free accommodations...as an additional enticement
