Default Fun cars.

The other day I took my wife's Acura TL in for service. The dealer gave me an RSX as a loaner to use until the TL was finished. The RSX was a plain (not a typeS) car with an auto/sportshift transmission. But, for the few hours that I had it, I had a lot of fun with it.

It is certainly not a pure breed sportscar, not a roadster and not exotic by any means, but it is just plain fun to drive. At least for the few hours that I had it. I was even a bit disappointed when my wife's car was finished. I wasn't quite ready to bring the RSX back.

I'm not sure that I'd want to own one, and I doubt that I'll ever buy one, but it really is a fun little car.

I'm sure there must be other cars that are just plain fun, have you driven any?

Actually, we're thinking of buying a MINI next year when my oldest gets his license. The plan is to pass my 4Runner (1998, 95,000 miles) to him. I'll use Liz's TL for my daily driver and Liz gets the MINI. We think she'd like it for running around town in. It's supposed to be a lot of fun to drive.

Recently I have driven a Mini Cooper S, Audi TT and my sister-in-law's RSX. All were quite enjoyable but cannot compare with the S2000. I will include my best friend's Boxster as well....nice but not like our cars.

The one that blew me away, however, was the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. I understand build quality is an issue and the ride was hard as a rock...but that little sucker flat flew!

'88 CRX Si - It was a tease though, I spun the rubber off the front tires twice in 8000 miles.

Don't try any high speed maneuvers in it, but my Jeep Wrangler is a fun about town vehicle. It's small and has a tight turning radius so you can whip around the parking lots. Put the top down and extend the "Jeep wave" to all the other Wranglers you'll see. The rear seat tumbles forward or comes out easily to give decent room in the back. Gas mileage is lousy though.
