Everyone really should consider picking up a couple of these, I keep one at home, one in the trunk, and several on the ship --just in case.

Zombie Kit
I placed my order today. Hope it gets here before this zombie finishes the job on my brain.

The problem with your conclusion is that everyone I know who was doing serious climate work, and any kind of long term research that even had the possibility of applicability towards "Global warming" lost every penny of their funding around 2001 when the Bush appointees got into the management of government funding for science.
A lot of long term data collection (50+ years or more) was just flatly cut off and now has an 8 year or greater gap in the data. An enormous setback IMO in the understanding of global environmental systems. Solely for the benefit of what agenda? The "head in the sand" brigade? Because it was what Exxon wanted? Awwww crap! don't get me started on those evil bastards (and no, they are not evil because they are capitalists, they are evil because they are EVIL.)
Mike,

Are you really going to sit there and tell me that there has been no funding for GW since 2001? C'mon...

As for evil, do you have a DOW ticker on your computer? Evil is being done to my investments even as I type.

I've been working professionally on oceanography since 1992, and just about every single PhD I know in the field who had anything to do with climate, who was not a tenured professor, wound up waiting tables or mowing lawns in 2001. Remember when the official policy of the US government became that there was no such thing as "Global Warming"?

I'll never forget. I wound up in Bermuda where most of the work was funded by the Brits, who fortunately stepped in to fill some of the vacuum, otherwise we would have lost most/all of the Atlantic long term sites and data sets completely. I'm talking about work that goes back to the 18th century in some cases.

It was a concerted effort by the administration to discredit the study of climate change in it's entirety. I know that's what it was because I was at the receiving end of it. Maybe Bush just hated Gore THAT much, who knows?

As for the DOW, I predicted a drop to DOW 5000 early in 2008 when oil was pushing $150. I'm genuinely sorry for everyone who has lost needed money gambling on equities, but bubbles ALWAYS lead to busts.

come on Mike,
my old boss had a rule when we were writing diagnostics.
if you don't know what you will do with the answer, don't ask the question.
Climate data would just make people uncomfortable.
they were just protecting the public from uncertainty.

Oops, too late, Val. Now that the pain's gone away and you think you're all OK again, the damage has been done. And now that you're in the Zombie Zone, all you can do is to go with the flow -- not that you'll have any control over it.

Just remember to wipe your feet after you come in from those all-night Zombie walk-abouts. HPH

Here is a surprisingly relevant oceanic CO2 article from CNN today.

Part of my point is that I dislike the hyperbole surrounding the debate, and found your remark refreshing that the scientists you knew were cautious.

If we look back at what the Bush administration actually said, it was probably more along the lines of "we don't know" rather than "it's all bunk". According to that dolt Gore, the world should have already ended last year. As it turns out, we're still here and things seem to be getting colder.

There's news of wayward sensors, whole slews of atmospheric stations that have been located next to air conditioning units, hockey stick theories built on faulty data, and so on.

I yearn for the days when scientists drone on in monotone about data sets, rather than hopping up on the tables, telling us we'll all burn up with heat or drown in rising seas as they do now.

Judging by your avatar you already have that title.

I think I'll move to Montana.
I'm feeling more like the Ayatollah of the Sofa today, which just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I'm leaning more toward Poofter's Froth, Wyoming. They plan ahead.
