If you think about it, many of the classics of old and of even recent years actually were not the high end cars in their day. A 55-57 chevy was a cool car, but it was a car that lots of people could afford back then.
Or maybe we will see a swing the other way and more cars will be unique and fun again. I hope that is the case.
Out here in the "Valley" of California, Modesto is an hour away, scene of American Graffiti. Recently California removed laws against so called "low riding and cruising" (specific definitions exist) and now there has been an explosion of that car culture. The high point to all this is the participation of the younger crowd. Entire families and groups of friends show up and compare notes and gawk at the hopping, souped up 50s, 60s, and a few 70 era cars. Impalas are king. (My MB 450GLE that can bounce and dance with eABC does NOT count!) For that culture group, youth is definitely getting onboard. Of course the older cars are gold.

Well that is good to hear! I hope we keep more of the younger gen involved. We do still see a good number out at the track and autox although maybe smaller than in previous years. But of course motorsports is just part of it. I want to see the general car culture survive and we need younger people involved for sure!

I don't like driving behind the "classics" the fumes really get to me, I don't like the smell.

When it comes to classics I agree with author/racer Burt BS Levy -

The only two criteria for The Buddy Palumbo Award

1) You had to have done the bulk of the building and/or restoration work with your own two hands (or four or more if it was a family effort).

2) You had to USE the damn car. I mean really DRIVE and ENJOY it the way its original designers and builders intended. No "professional restorations," glass-case jobs or trailer queens allowed!

Classics are funny things.
A VW/Porsche 914, eh sort of a fun little car but mildly interesting.
Porsche 914-6 now where talking about a truly fun car and $$$.
of course by modern standards it's on the slow side.

914’s are starting to go up now.
They always make me think of Gretchen Corbett’s lawyer character in The Rockford Files she drove a red 914 in the beginning of the series until she moved up to a 450SL.

I used to like the smell of Indycars when I attended races, they emit a sweet smell based on the fuel they run.
