Some years ago, I was chatting with a co-worker who had just gone through his third divorce. He said, "Dallas, I've finally figured out how to avoid all of this pain and suffering in the future. Every 5 years, I'm going to find a woman that I hate and buy her a new house."

I know a gay couple who has been together for 13 years. If they were able to be legally married I'd be happy for them. What difference does it make to anyone else? No one would know anyway. I don't like seeing guys or gals kissing in public but I think they should be able to get married if they want to. I really don't understand why this is so offensive to some people.

Because some people confuse religion with ethics and morality. If 2 people love and care for each other I think that should be cherished and socially approved.

This aught to get interesting ...

No reason to take cover. I think we all appreciate varying opinions here in Vintage. Our age helps us keep things in perspective, right?

For the record, I agree with CoralDoc. I'm not interested in the religious perspective on marriage (though I realize many are). I think as a social institution, marriage is all about raising families. Gays/Lesbians that I've known over the years are no better or worse at this (probably better, really, but I can't really say) than straights. To me, it's as simple as that.
