I was on Lowell in la Crescenta at 5:15 AM yesterday morning with the top down, headed for the 210 Freeway. I sped up to beat the light on Honolulu. I was probably going 20 mph over the speed limit. Suddenly, a cop makes a hard, fast u turn, turns on his lights and siren, and gets behind me. I pull over and stop. He sits in his car for the longest time. I'm thinking "WTF is this?" He finally gets out, walks up to me on the passenger side, and shines his flashlight on me and my car interior. He doesn't even look 21. He says "I stopped you for your speed. I know you were trying to beat the light. You must be freezing cold." I reply "Nah, I'm just going to the gym." He says "May I see your driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance?" I pull out my wallet, get out my license, and dig around for the other stuff. He says "Just let me see your license." He looks at it and says "I'm gonna let you go this time, George. You've had a rough week already. (I was wearing a USC cap: Rose Bowl.) Have a nice day." Kind of a strange experience.

 

He probably didn't want you for speeding. Wanted to check of the car was stolen or something. Or maybe he was just a USC fan.

 

My guess is he was looking for a drunk driver.

 

My guess is that you were this close to a ticket, but for some reason he decided to give you a break. Maybe it was the hour, maybe the top down, or maybe the USC shirt. Who knows? Just chalk this one up to good luck.

 

I asked Mrs. Raptor "Did you hear a siren just after I left for the gym this morning?" She replied "Yeah, I was wondering what you did."

 

So there's the silver-lining, of USC losing. Maybe.

 

Yeah, I guess. Kind of like saying I totaled my S, but I found a quarter in the street.

 

Wow, you really do feel for USC, don't ya?

 

Yeah, Patty, I'm still depressed and rerunning the "what if" game in my head over and over. Someone needs to take me out back and shoot me.
