Had a wonderful time at the North Pole (Quebec City, Canada). Thought I'd share a few pictures but bear with me, I'm having trouble uploading.
Everything that looks like crystal (or plastic) is actually ice (honest, Patty). The detail the carvers/sculptors got out of these blocks of ice was amazing. The ice was brought up from Montreal and is free of impurities, hence the crystal clear appearance. Not once did I see a drop of water fall from any of the ice sculptors. It never got above -11C in the daytime.
The mascot or effigy of the carnival was Bon Homme, I fell in love with him and screamed and jumped up and down every time I saw him in the flesh (silly Granny). Emil was the perfect host and tour guild. I'm smiling as I type this.
Here's the first one of me and my boy, Lainey (and gang)! We renamed him Bon Hommie for the sistas. I think his mitten actually has a thumb. The ice was very dry to the touch. Check out the detail on the legs and chairs. That's a glimpse of Parliament in the background.
PS: Oh and the wall behind me is part of a castle made of smaller blocks of ice that rises 30 feet and is beautiful when the colored lights hit it at night.

Very Granny, and I mean that literally.
Believe it or not, when you dress right, it's doesn't feel that cold. I was actually overdressed and had to upbutton my coat and take off my blowup gloves when I overheated from exercise or that other heat .
Keep those pics coming, Granny! I like Quebec, it's a lot like being in Europe. But it helps if you can speak French up there, doesn't it? Damned Anglophones, anyway!!

I've often heard that about any cold weather activity, hiking, skiing, but I have no desire try it out or to travel to cold places in the month of February. You've got plenty of spunk for a Granny. You go, girl!

Actually the few times I've been to Quebec, the people are pretty nice and switch to English for you (once they find out that you are not Canadian). I think they give English only speaking Canadians a tougher time.

Howdy again, Birthday Boy! Yes, it helps but because they cater to the tourists, most of the folks in the city and shops speak English. A few of my phrases came back to me but their English was much better than my French. And we had Emil some of the time. Let's see if I can find another one.
You've seen this one from another angle but I wanted to point out that the pictures on the walls are painted on ice. And you get a better view of one of the outside walls at the Ice Hotel. Oh, and that chair wasn't the least bit cold (plus it had a deer skin on the seat). That lamp and table were something. These pictures are showing me things I missed because my jaw was dropped and I was in such awe.
