Grieving for Katrina's Victims
New Orleans is one of my favorite, beautiful old Cities. She now lies in ruins and under water. So many wonderful, wonderful people have lost their lives, their homes, everything they own. I grieve too for those in Mississippi and Alabama. I've been over to see who in the New Orleans club has checked in -- many have lost their cars and some have not yet checked in. Let us collectively keep those folks in our thoughts.
Yes, they are in mine, too, Val...I saw reports on NO in today's Post that said it will be at least 12-16 weeks before the people who live there will be allowed back. In some respects, MS and AL have it better, since the water has receded in those areas. But better is a relative term with such devastation. Very, very sad...

We just received an e-mail from him and I have his permission to share what he wrote us. I will share excerpts:

Also, one very overlooked group in times like these is the animals that are affected in the disaster. For donations to help out those who cannot speak for themselves, check with organizations like this:

It is hard to imagine that much widespread devastation. One's heart has to go out to the victims of this catastrophic event, the worst natural diaster in our nation's history.
I can not help but wonder if it is "the media" not ever mentioning anything that resembles "good news" or that we are typically on our own as I have not heard one report of assistance being offered by any other country.
Wait, wait! Could that sound I hear, be the sound of the French relief planes flying needed emergency supplies down to New Orleans?
NOT!
It just amazes me that when diaster strikes us, we are always on our own.

CNN has a number of victims complaining about the lack of help and assistance. A FEMA director came on and said he has every available resource at his disposal, it is just a question of organizing, marshalling and transportation. Who knows how this will play out, but I'm guessing there will be tent cities for a long while after this.

In all seriousness though, my prayers are heavy for those poor victims. It must be awful
