Dean, outlaw sounds so illegal and all. Try renegade and see how it fits.

I prefer to look at it as engaging in civil disobedience. I've about reached my limit when it comes to being nickel-and-dimed to death by the government for all these ridiculous license, permit, and "just-because" fees. This is where I'm drawing my line in the sand.
Don't want to hijack the thread too much but I agree. I am being license/taxed to death here. I need a license to exercise my 2nd amendment right to be armed, a license to operate a backhoe/loader, a license (separate ones) to do piping work in Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire, a Weights and measures license in CT, etc. etc. . . .
OTOH, back in my youth I too, had a walkie talkie. As I recall, you could have 100 mw without a license. If you wanted to operate a CB radio station (including walkie talkies) with more power you needed a (guess what) license from the FCC. The more things change . . .

Bulletin:
Be on the lookout for a silverstone Honda S2000 which was spotted earlier today zig zagging in and out of traffic at speeds in excess of 45 mph. The infamous homeless scofflaw Dean was seen as he tried to contact his gang of malcontents on an illegal walkie-talkie.

FCC license = $$$$ for our not so favorite Uncle. Just look at the forced changeover to HDTV. Is the public clamoring for this? No way? But the HDTV channels use less bandwith, and that means freeing up frequencies for the FCC to auction off for other uses. I recall reading that they hope to reap close to $2 billion from the auctions.
So do your civic duty and go buy a 42" plasma HD set.;-)
