Default Happy 75th Birthday

Today would have been the King's 75th birthday. Don't know about you, but his music made a lasting impression on me. RIP, Elvis.

We went to our local watering hole last night and we all celebrated his birthday. There was two cardboard standups of the King. We played Elvis songs all night and even had a cake. The King lives.

In fact I heard he was spotted in Kalamazoo.

We went to a writers guild dinner on Tuesday night and they had a group perform called the Oh Boy. The lead singer talked about the early days of Elvis's career and presented facts I never knew while playing his early recordings. Then he performed songs from artists who Elvis influenced (Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis). He then put on some thick black rim glasses and launched the rest of the show by going back to the 50's with songs recorded by Buddy Holly. There was standing room only and I never saw so may Q-tips mouthing those old songs and dancing by their tables. This guy was fabulous and so was his band. He actually met Holly's wife and he has one of Holly's original guitars. He presents a full Buddy Holly show at the beach and we will be following it.
