It has been 70 years......
Hard to believe that today marks the 70th anniversary of that terrible day in our history. May it NEVER happen again. Much has changed in the world since then, and yet there is a lot that hasn't.
I for one, cannot let this day pass without paying respect to those that were lost on December 7, 1941.... or without remembering all those lost and wounded because of what was begun on that day.
God bless them all...

This The Pearl Harbors Association's anniversary celebration is the 70th and last. I was reading that that number of surviving veterans who were there and who can attend is dwindling fast. But veterans will be able to attend the ceremony on their own. I think there are currently some 120 survivors who are still around.
If you are a history buff, and have an hour or so to spare, then I suggest this article from The Atlantic that was originally published in 1948: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/...ngle_page=true
It gives an interesting retrospective from the time shortly after WWII.

I visited the Memorial a few years ago. Very moving. As a Navy vet with a Dad and Uncle who served in the Pacific it was on my Bucket List. A local Delaware natives ashes have been returned to the Utah by a Navy diver and his urn will be placed in a port hole. He manned a 50 cal on the Utah during the attack and watched his ship go down. So glad to know some still remember and will never forget.

I have visited the USS Arizona Memorial on several occasions as well as the other memorials presented in THIS PRESENTATION If one has the opportunity I would highly recommend seeing them all while visiting Oahu.A few tips: Go early to see the Arizona as the last tender leaves at 15:00 (3:00 PM) but the free tickets are generally gone by about 13:00 (1:00 PM). One cannot take pack packs, camera bags, purses, hand bags, shopping bags etc., so put them in the trunk of your rental before you leave your hotel, not in the parking lot at the memorial due to the risk of thief.
