A name stolen from Ferrari. Specifically the Ferrari 250 GTO (which Ferrari said stood for Gran Turismo Omologato, Italian for "Grand Touring Homologated." But the Pontiac was a better performer, at least according to Car and Driver..

Another good performer from Pontiac was the 6000 STE (SpecialTouring Edition) It was fast, had a cool performance exhaust and a great suspension.It made the 10 best performance list every year it was in production. I bought a 1986 maroon and surprised my wife with it for her birthday. She loved it and so did I.

I had what they called 'the poor mans G.T.O.' a Pontiac T-37. It originally came with a 350 but someone had put a 455 in it with a Holley 850 double pumper and headers. It was a serious torque monster.
