Went to see my orthopedist today. He gave my my birthday present: I absolutely need a knee replacement. It is scheduled for late October.

Hey Herman- The good news is that you are (apparently) HEALTHY enough for that operation! That's not always the case...but keep us updated on this chapter!

You know that you're one of our favorite characters here on the Vintage Forum

After what you have been through, a knee replacement should be the equivalent of a cold! Good luck.

My brother in law went through knee surgery last year and says he wishes he had done it several years sooner than he did. I hope your experience is similarly successful!

Herman, I have faith that you will come through this surgery well and be glad that you did it. Walking without pain will be much better than how you must be feeling, now.

BTW, tomorrow my sister in Colorado who is almost 60 years-old, will be having her second knee replacement. She isn't happy about it either.

Herman will you have a standard knee part or CG custom insert?

Best wishes, Herman. Sorry it has to be done. My sister in law has had both knees done and is glad she did. It relieved her pain.

I feel for anyone getting knee surgery. I just had it for a "complex meniscus crush" and the pain and swelling are more than anything I've ever been through.
You take your knees and walking (or clutching )for granted. I won't again.
When I asked the Dr. how it happened, he said once you get past 50 it can happen without a "cause". Sucks.

I'm now 12 weeks post op, and have just in the last 2-3 weeks been well enough to drive stick again. Pain is down, but I tire easily. PT helps and hurts.

I don't wish this on anyone but I am now much better than before surgery, but now I know how long it takes to heal. I am glad you're getting this fixed and praying for you.
