In Seattle, we say that on October 22 if you hold out a rock and it floats away into the sky, we will have a sunny and dry winter. If it drops to the ground, we will have a rainy winter with overcast skies almost every day.

The big "stone drop day" celebration hasn't quite reached the Groundhog Day level of national news coverage, but we keep hoping.
