Default Are you looking forward to winter?

I used to love winter. It was my second favorite season after summer. Fall was just too nasty and spring was way to wet. Summer was hot and winter was cold, and I could tolerate that.

I loved driving with my top down all winter. There was something special about the cold air blowing over the top of the car. It was refreshing and exhilarating all at once. It was never too cold to take the top down.

Winter used to be the time for skiing and fireplaces and social gatherings and scarfs and gloves.

Now, as we approach the end of fall with winter right around the corner, it seems like a bother. Who wants to be cold? Who wants to shovel snow? Not me.

Maybe I'm getting older, or maybe it's this cold that I've had since Lake George that I can't seem to get rid of, or maybe I'm just in a bad mood tonight, but I'm not really looking forward to winter. Are you?

You could just move to San Diego.

The problem is that I love living in the Northeast and near (30 miles) New York City. Thats why I tolerate the seasons. I like it here and I know that I can't have it both ways. That said, I'm not looking forward to winter.

Yeah, San Diego, where a very ordinary 3 bedroom, 1700 sq. ft. tract home located at least five congested miles from the beach costs just (approximately) 650K.

As soon as the time changed, the weather changed also to the stereotypical Pacific Northwest winter, rain and the ever present gray cloud cover. I am not looking forward to months of that.

Summers here are to die for though, or at least worth putting up with the winters.

I'm not looking forward to it but I don't really mind it. I just hope we get some snow this winter. I know, be careful what you wish for. I like to have fires in the fire place. It is hard to wash the S though when my hands get cold. It's summer I dread here because it's too hot, although this year wasn't bad.

I don't enjoy the winter, and as I get older, my tolerance for it dwindles.

I don't like the gray skies, of January, or the snow. I don't like cold, and I hate the fact that it's dark at 5:00 PM.

While I know it's not good to wish one's life away, I count down the days until December 21, when the days start getting longer once again.

We'll get through it. We do every year. I made our reservations for an April trip to AZ, so we have something to look forward to.

Our roots are here, our families are here, so here we stay.

And just to rub it in here is the Link to the "End of Summer" BBQ this sunday in San Diego. Having grown up in Michigan I can tell you the last 20 years has thinned out my blood.

For some reason, I'm not dreading it this year. The unfortunate thing for me is that I've really gotten back into mountain biking this fall, and I'll have to stop soon...

I haven't decided how much I'm going to drive the S this winter. Like Rob, I really like driving in the cold with the top down.

Actually I am looking forward to it. I plan to do a lot of oil painting and I can not bring myself to get started while there's stuff to do outside. Speaking of cool top down drives - did one today. I didn't see a single other soul with the top down and got a lot of stares and pointing but, like you Rob, I love it with the cold air and warm sun - all at the same time.
