oh I had weird stuff. I had a fulton J subwoofer in mt bedroom for a while.

^ not mine
but imagine the bottom half of one of those boxes was the sub.

I went through the tube stage with a Mac C22 preamp, heathkit 70 tube amps. ( they doubled nicely as space heaters.)
The sweetest was probably the marantz 9 amps.

I truly regret not buying a crown PSA2 amp.
I still have a Tandberg 2075 receiver sitting in the gym area of the basement. If I went through and recapped it, it would probably sell well.

As strange as it sounds I didn't buy much for myself. I got to scratch that audiophile itch at my store.
There are things looking back I wish I still had or bought when i could.
The Transcriptor skeleton turntable

I sold my Kenwood KD500 with a black widow on it.

I actually got an itchy finger when I saw this for sale

my PC audio is nice.

My parasound Zpre2 pre-amp isn't in the shot, it's hidden by the monitor.
No magic DACs but the Infinity infinitesimals are fantastic.
I'm still looking for a proper subwoofer to go with it.
Unfortunately I have way to many other methods for pissing away money so I just haven't sprung for one yet.
The crown amp has "adequate" headroom.

Love all this old gear. One of my jobs that went towards paying for tuition was selling hi-fi gear at Jafco in Seattle. Catalog showroom stuff. Our top shelf gear was Phase Linear. Once per year we got to buy stuff at deep discounts that they called "salesman accommodation price" back in the day.

Picked up a Phase stack. 3000 Preamp. 4000 tuner. 400 Series II amp. Pioneer touch control cassette deck. Micro Seiki direct drive turntable. Shure V15 IV cartridge. ESS AMT 1b speakers.
Loved that system. Super loud. Great imaging from the air motion transformer / ribbon tweeter-miss.

Wifey banished that system to the basement after marriage.

Now when I want to hear something carefully with my damaged ears it's through some 64 Audio 3 driver custom molded in ear monitors. Lovely to behold. Bought them mostly for performing but are very listenable at the same time. 26db of isolation.

So now that I have a nice sounding starter system, I have begun a musical journey aimed at re-listening some of the all-time greatest albums. To qualify, the album must be interesting, with lyrics worth following, interesting musical composition, and superior production. At this point I am only listening through Amazon Music Unlimited, a pretty good streaming service who's flaws are transparent to my old ears.

I just listened to Pet Sounds straight through for the first time in many years.. Of course it took me back but there were a number of tracks that were not familiar to me but contained some fascinating hooks and sonic nuggets. Those certainly deserve additional listening/exploration. Then there were two very familiar tracks that hit me in new ways. I have always considered Sloop John B just another Beach Boys novelty song. But close listening revealed new meaning and depth. And that acappella repeat of the chorus about half way through gave me chills. Had to be among the best harmony Brian Wilson ever recorded. Then there was God Only Knows. My mind immediately jumped to thoughts of my wife of 53 years and as the song played my eyes got a little leaky. Pet Sounds: Not just for kids.

I came across suction cup lifters in a drawer.

I suspect there is humor behind that dave.
The suction cup wouldn't work with the hole in the middle of the album.
And the use of a scrubby for an album is shall we say, less than ideal.

Yep, got me, hook line and sinker on that one. I just tried, a little off to side of the hole, it wouldn't grip the label.

Pet Sounds really is a great album to listen to and pay attention to everything that’s going on in those songs. Brian was a genius and it really showed if you listened close enough.

I’ve got a Blu-ray of Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, it’s not a video but just the album but they’ve produced it for surround. It’s truly quite good, but not designed for 2 channel stereo, has to be 5.1 minimum.

It has an Atmos version on it, yes.

The 5.1 is the one I use. I don't have an Atmos set up, Atmos requires speakers in the ceiling or high up the wall.
