Personally, I use either Trend Micro or ESET due to using them for a number of years in my work life. From a PC Magazine review of Intego:

CONS

  • Mediocre detection of Windows malware
  • No detection of malicious or fraudulent websites (Hmmm, do you see a problem here?)

I did report it to them and they took it down. Hard to believe they don't vet (is that the right word) the ads before listing them.

I thought it had good ratings. I think you found their flaw..... they make a big deal about checking stuff coming in. Thanks for suggestions Ken.

Of course, I knew that it was Wi-Fi. I was just joking with you.

I am sure that you believe you know what you think I said, but I'm not sure that you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

No worries Sue.

Ken, can a person have more than one virus protection running at the same time? Just curious.

Per PC Mag both ones you listed have similar faults. Con for Trend: tanked our hands-on malware protection test. Con for ESET: ransomware protection not effective in testing.

the odds of you suffering a ransomware attack are pretty minimal (unless you're really a multi-billion dollar company and you've been keeping it a secret ) I use Trend Micro as my baseline anti-virus program and use online scanners from ESET. Once upon a time in a previous environment, we used Kaspersky on roughly 35,000 computers but the Russian connection killed that.

This is from the August 2022 PC Mag Trend Micro test:

Two major independent testing labs certify Trend Micro's ability to defend your Mac from malware. It comes with numerous bonus features, including new privacy and utility tools.

I'm not a big fan of Mcafee due to the large number of files it writes to your hard drive and the difficulty in completely removing it.
As to running two antivirus programs, I'd pick one and then use an on-line scanner once a month or so. On my virtual Windows machines, I just run the on-line scanner once every two weeks or so.
