Default A Holiday to Remember

I don't mean this to be an endorsement of Chevrolet but this is a 5 minute commercial that they are running on the internet, produced in cooperation with the Alzheimer's Association that is well worth watching. It will bring both a smile to your face and a tear to your eyes. If you've ever known anyone with dementia or Alzheimer's this will touch you. Even if you don't it will touch you.

My mother had Alzheimer's for the last 7 years of her life. It started when my father was still alive, it was mild and my father who adored my mother covered up for her. Two years later my father died and for the next 5 years my mother's Alzheimer's spiraled out of control. By the third year after my father's passing her Alsheimer's was so bad she no longer recognized me, my sister, our spouses or any of her grandchildren. It is a horrible, terrible disease. Watching the video brought back a lot of memories. My mother's symptoms and actions in the beginning were almost identical to that of "Granny" in the video.

I didn't mean for this to be an endorsement of Chevrolet or General Motors but I do appreciate the fact that they produced this commercial because maybe it will increase the awareness of this horrible disease and help to push for a cure. On the one hand it brought a smile to my face and at the same time it brought tears to my eyes. My memories of my mother are bittersweet. For the first 80 years of her life she was one of the greatest women who ever lived. I don't know who she was for the last 7 years.

Very touching. Two movies I like on this subject are Away from Her and Still Alice.

This is institutional advertising. It has very little, if anything, to do with selling Chevrolet products.

The video was touching. Rick's Mom had Alzheimer's. Once she started to decline and forget who the family members were, she didn't have the moments of clarity seen in this video or in some of the movies.
The decline just continued. It's an awful disease.
