Default Home Security Systems

We plan to be away from time to time for extended periods of time and are thinking of having a home security system installed. Any recommendations?

Your method has been our method of preference in the past, but since we're away so much now that Jim's retired, we need something that does not require our presence. I've called three services for estimates. ADT, Allied and a local service. We'll see what they have to offer. One of them advertises that you get a discount on your homeowner's insurance if you get a system. Does anyone know if that is true?

1. you have to use satellite photos to see my house.
2. got a really big dog.
3. have really nosy neighbors.

the reality is I'm not sure we have all that much that would be marketable.
no jewelry to speak of.

Security by two vicious German Shepherds, at least that's what we tell people.

^^ I have one, but she travels with us. I'm sure the cost of feeding, veterinary care, and paying someone to care for it while we're away would outweigh the cost of a security system. We're interested in having our home secure while we're gone. While we're here its a non-issue. Several houses in our area have been burglarized recently and we'd like to not become a statistic. I'm trying to find out if anyone has a system and if it works well for them. I'm also interested in fees/costs, etc.

ADT is very popular in this area, it's been around for a long time also. False alarms could be a problem, check to see what each company does about too many of them. Some Police Dept's will charge for responding for over a certian amount.

I let my neighbor park his police patrol car in my driveway.

I have ADT at work and if there home systems are anything like the system we have at work be prepared to have lots of false alarms and breakdowns!
