How about a controversial thread?

Okay, Ralper......Tell me what you think about the 16th Amendment not being ratified.

Can we look forward to one post per page

Of course, I don't expect W to bring this option to the table
Cordycord and PaS2KA, you are taking Ralper's words as fact. I do not. There is just too much information out there that says otherwise. If it were as black and white as it being stated, there would be no confusion and no case would be heard. Read "The Law that Never Was".
Ralper, I suppose we could argue until we were blue in the face about this and never concede to one another. I believe a cease fire is in order.

Whether or not you take Rob's word as fact, his words are true. Since I am also in the tax business, I see this stuff often, and I challenge anybody to show me a case in the last 20 years where the person claiming they don't have to pay income taxes won their case. (unusual circumstances pertaining only to them aside). Those that don't pay are either a) lying b) haven't been caught yet c) aren't worth chasing down or d) promoting some fly-by-night scheme.
Uppity,
There is absolutely no confusion on this issue. I think the law is as clear as can be. You have now heard from two tax professionals, myself and Morris, and we both agree that that taxes must be paid, and that there is no real basis for your stand. Even if you don't have confidence in my opinion, Morris is more experienced and knowledgable than I am, and I'd listen to him.
You, of course, are free to believe whatever you choose in this matter, and if you or anyone you know chooses not to pay tax, I wish you and them luck. Sooner or later you will need it. I hope that you are just arguing for the sake of arguing, and that you really don't believe it, the courts don't.
Finally, I hope that everyone and anyone reading this doesn't fall into the trap of believing that you can get away without paying your tax. Only in very special circumstances, as Morris has detailed, has this happened. Pay your taxes.
I hope this discussion has not influenced anyone to try to get away without paying their proper tax.

What's really interesting about income tax is that it didn't even exist 100 years ago! Apparently, 1914 was the date. Can you believe how that's changed? Even to the vernacular inevitability of "death and taxes."
As for your disclaimer, I hope no one in this SPORTS CAR forum uses this as tax advice. I am not suggesting that anyone not pay their taxes. I do. I am not willing to get everything I own taken away from me. And I certainly do not believe that any tax professional believes income tax to be illegal; that would be sort of hypocritic, don't you think? The argument was whether income tax is legal or not; not, Hey don't pay your taxes and see what happens. I believe it is illegal, yet I pay my taxes.
You know, not that many years ago, top doctors cut people and let blood drain out believing this to be the only way to get disease out of the body. Today we know different. Maybe tomorrow we might know something different about income tax.
That being said, I am in a good mood tonight. Been in a pissy one for a while now.
How about the military guy on the news talking about "it's fun to shoot them". Any comments?
