Default How Cool Are You?

Now that the dog days of summer are upon us, I'm curious what the average temperature of your house is.

We're 76-78 degrees when we are moving about the house, probably closer to 76. With central AC that's comfortable. We do kick it down to 70 or so to sleep. Can't sleep when it's hot.

I conserve a bit by pushing it up to 80-82 when we are not home. No sense in giving the electric company any more money than I have to.

^ Same as us. I read that you save 5% on your electric bill for every degree that you turn up your system.

74 deg and I run a ceiling fan in the kitchen. At night I turn on a small rotating fan in the bedroom. We have an attic fan that is on a thermostat and it helps keep the house cool.

I keep it at about 82-84. Unless it's hotter than that I just keep my windows open.

Our electric rates are soaring. We use natural gas for cooking, clothes drying and hot water. Those rates are climbing too.

Our electric bill for May was almost 1/3 higher than the norm for that time of year at $120.00, and we had hardly used the AC. The next month it was $140.00. No one is home all day. Are we really using that much electricity? Maybe the is running all the appliances when we aren't home? I will probably go when I open the next bill after this heat wave.

I look at the electric bill as taxes. As long as your comfortable it doesn't matter what the cost is Imagine how miserable you'd be without air conditioning.

I find I'm a delicate flower in my old age. I wilt easily and MUST have AC. No matter the cost.
