OK, since Hope and Honor (the eaglets) are pretty much leaving the nest, here's a new one! MI Dave posted this link in the eagle thread.

The mother is Phoebe. She lays 4-5 clutches a year in Orange County, CA. These babies are so cute.

Just found out that one of the babies in the nest is an orphan! Chick was born 3/1 and orphan placed in the nest 3/7. Phoebe is taking care of both!

Cool. Now you all back on the eastern side of the country can see my sun come up. I live in Orange County, CA, too. Looks like the nest is in a climbing rose bush with those thorns. Looks like the little birds will be gone very soon. I wonder if they'll come back to the nest or just be done with it.

Groovy. I just saw the babies get feed. I never managed to catch that with the eagles.

According to the webcam guy, he's been filming Phoebe since 2007. So it appears she reuses this nest - 4-5 clutches a year are a lot!!

Did some reading up on these little critters. They fledge at a little over three weeks. They are now a little over two weeks. So maybe one more week. They can't survive on the nectar alone. The mother (only the mother) feeds them a combo of bugs and nectar. It looks like she could be puncturing their throats since her whole beak goes down, but I guess it all works!

I could hear birds, but see nothing. Still dark out. I'll check later.

Just saw one of the hummingbirds get rid of poop the same way the eaglets did.
