Hurricane Frances
It's looking like Francis will be worse than Charley. To our Florida friends, be safe!!!
The site below is run by a group of people that chase hurricanes and collect video and weather data for distribution to FEMA and NOAA. They also do seminars on hurricane preparedness. They have a vehicle equipped with a weather station, video and webcams that they are going to tie down and hopefully capture live data and video of the center of the storm as it hits, and present it on the web. They also have archival footage of previous storms.
HurricaneTrack
Interesting stuff, at least to a weather geek.

^That's the vehicle that's going to be tied down with anchors, so it can send realtime data and video back to a more secure location while onboard computers and cameras record what happens when the hurricane hits.
I'd not want to be inside it though...

Yeah...it looks nasty all right. Coming in at Vero Beach, which is just south of Melbourne, where my sister lives. She and her hubby drove to Tampa this morning to wait it out.
I had a meeting scheduled for this morning in Charleston, SC. The folks down there called me and postponed the meeting because they were concerned that I might be stranded down there for the weekend. I was glad to oblige.
But when I tried to cancel my flight, the airline told me it was a non-refundable ticket, and that they would not do me any special favors. Granted, Charleston isn't Palm Beach but do they really expect people to fly down there, knowing that they will likely get stranded?

Deb, are they aware that the current forecast is for the storm to pass just north of Tampa as it exits the Florida peninsula? It's looking like most of the state might be affected by this thing...
According to the latest forecast, this thing is supposed to blow right up my backside Sunday afternoon. I've battened down the hatches so about all I have to worry about now is one or more of my Live Oaks getting blown over and landing on the house, or the wind taking down my screened in patio.
