I hit the jackpot
I started a part time detailing business now that I have retired to the beach. I did this part time for many years in Wilmington. I put together a flyer and had business cards printed. I recently detailed a realtors Porsche Boxter and he was so pleased he invited the owner of the realty business, which is the biggest at the beach, to take a look at it. He was impressed and called me 2 days later to see if I would detail one of his cars. I met him at his office and followed him to a huge barn which was situated on several thousand acres of soy bean farmland all of which he owns. He opened the huge overhead doors and there were about 8 cars and 4 trucks stored there as well as 2 boats. He took me to the car he drives when he cruises and it is a 1964 327 Chevy Super Sport convertible. Beautiful burgundy with white interior in good condition but not show condition. The garage had a custom urethane floor you could eat off of and 16 ceiling lights which made the inside of the garage look like I was outside. It is temperature controlled and has a state of the art alarm system. I detailed the car ( 7 hours) as the paint had water spots and was a little dull and the interior was dirty. I clay barred, compounded, polished and then used Blackfire's new brazilian carnauba paste wax over Klasse Acrylic/polymer which gives the finish a wet look and incredible depth. He was tied up so I locked up and left. He called me the next morning and asked me to stop by his office. I did and he was extremely pleased with the job I did and tipped me very very generously. Then he told me he has a 64, 66, 67, 68 GTO, 64 Mustang convertible, 69 Roadrunner, several vintage corvettes, I saw a 68 in the garage, 62 chevy super sport and is looking for a 70 Chevelle big block. Most of them are show cars or are being restored to show car status. His brother does all of the restorations. He wants me to do the detailing on most of them. I only saw the 68 vette, mustang and road runner in the garge I was working in. He has another big garage nearby on another farm he owns. He is taking the SS on a cruise next weekend and he said there will be a lot of car people going with him and I should get ready to get real busy once they see the SS. Nice guy, very down to earth and a self made multi-millionaire. I took a pix (35 MM film camera) of the SS overlooking the farmland and got an 8 X 10 of it framed for him in appreciation of his business and the opportunity to work on these cool cars. Looks like I am coming out of retirement. Just wanted to share.

I can take pics but will have to borrow a digital camera as all I have is the old film camera. I think I may go to some of the shows with him and give the cars a last minute spritz of detailing spray before judging so I will take pics at those events. It is hard work but it keeps me in shape along with the biking I do. Yes, I did retire but if you love to do something like this it is great. I work at my pace, no boss and the extra money is nice. Keeps me out of my wife's hair too. Retirement is an adjustment!!!! Beats working at WaWa. Thanks for your kind comments.

Ray!

Maybe you will hire me when I return to town.....
