Here is a LINK to a Wall Street Journal article about the ten fastest "super cars" in the world.

I can not help but wonder, what percentage of people that can afford to buy one of these cars, actually are talented enough drivers to drive one and really appreciate it? Or is it all about status?

What do you think?

I would think status......

The owners either have to work too much (therefore have extra $$)..... were given the $$ (someone died).... or won the lotto!

All about status...ROLEX on wheels.

Boats are even worse. You can blow 10 million plus and it just sits at the dock.

None of those REALLY trip my trigger. There are plenty of less expensive cars that I would drool over. For me, the Veyron, especially, is BUTT UGLY.

its bragging rights, although i wouldn't mind a Koenigsegg and McLaren

There is a saying, the drivers ability to handle a vehicle does not necessarly equal the depths of their pocket books

First of all, if you could handle any of those cars, where are you going to drive it to it's capability in the USA. If I had the money there are less expensive cars (911, Corvette, vintage classic) I would be more interested in buying than those super exotics. Just MHO.

McLaren F1 although I'd settle for an MP4-12C

Money no object? I'd still chose the McLaren F1.

Living in Fairfax County, VA which is one of the more affluent communities in the country I see lots of high end cars. I have two neighbors with hundreds of yards of me that both own Ferrari's, Last week about two miles from our house I got passed by a Saleen S7 (which was the first one that I had ever seen in the flesh). Our new next door neighbor has built a custom home with a six car garage with twelve foot ceilings which after he installs the lifts may be a twelve car garage.

I have done some instructing at HPDE's at Summit Point over the years and I am of the opinion that just because one can afford to have one does not mean that you deserve to drive it. With that stated: I am always "afraid" that some people may think that I should not be driving my S2000 either.

Flats, it seems to me that you are qualified to answer this question: Is it true that the size of the boat is inversely proportionate to the amount of use that it gets? That seems to be true.

I have a long time friend that at one time made his living as a boat mechanic and he informed me that "B O A T" is not actually a word, it is an acronym for "Bring Over Another Thousand" to get it running.
