Yes, his son's part-time job involves deliveries, and he was really worried when the car broke down he would not have any means to get to work and they'd fire him. Probably an overreaction, but, in any event, he and the +1 worked the case all day and the results were worth it. He is still in college, but should graduate May 4.

I agree that the Corolla sounds like a good choice, especially given his priorities. He can pick up a 2040 Miata for his mid-life crisis.

The downside of cars that last a long time is you don't get the safety advantages of the newer vehicles.

The lack of airbags in the 1998 Corolla is pretty graphic. As well as the poor rigidity in the body shell. Probably only crash test dummy survived the test.

I am surprised. Even my 1997 truck has a steering wheel air bag. Maybe that's why they wanted to trash that cheap old Toyota.
