I've been online price shopping for weeks. I'm sick of my Nikon D70s and it's issues and am going to buy the Canon 40d. Found a great deal on Crutchfield last night. They beat Costco by $410 and B&H by $345.

Good idea about a camera for a present. I know my daughter had one years ago but maybe she would like a new one. I'll ask.

Patty, do either your daughter or son have the photography gene that you have?

CONGRATS!!!

Not only for walking away from Nikon, but for going to such a top of the line Canon such as the 40D, very impressive.

Me, I'm still shooting with the 350D, the Rebel XT. For me, I just can't afford a new camera, too many other things must come 1st, like new sneakers for the Titan, which could be about as much as you are getting the 40D for...

Here is my point-n-shoot. The amazing thing is the dual lens, this sucker goes all the way down to 23mm and up to 117mm. A wide angle lens from Canon for my digital SLR that would get down this low would be about $850.

I love the fact that it is so thin I can wear it under my shirt, around my neck.

Small digital cameras are an incredible thing to have. I know several pro photographers who shoot with digital SLR's in the 20+ megapixel range and they still carry around a little point-n-shoot digital, because, the best camera in the world is useless if it is back in the studio and you are standing right in front of a great photo opp.
I love my sigma dp1

I too have the Canon40D.....Great cam.... be careful of grey market. B&H usually can beat anyones price for the real thing, and they can be "Trusted".....also, the cam body is only the "START".....I purchased an "L" Glass lens that was 3 times the cost of the 40D body.....( and this lens is by no means, one of those 3' long monsters, either....)

I think Crutchfield is very reputable and I believe they have the USA warranties, but thanks for the reminder to make sure.
