I would get the S our of the garage.

Otherwise, screw the laptop, I'm getting my car out

I can always start my life and business over
I'd watch it burn while I called the insurance company on my cell phone. After five or six hurricaines, the last being Katrina, anything we have that is irreplacable is in the safe deposit box. The rest is just stuff.
[rant]And the more I could get All$tate to pay the better I would like it. First they screwed us on hurricaine damage, then they bumped up our rates, then they dropped our wind and hail coverage alltogether. Now we are in the wind pool and my insurance bill is almost as much as my principle and interest.

Thanks...I feel much better now.

I'd pull the file drawer out of my desk, .....
As far as I'm concerned, if it's on fire and we've gotten out, it isn't my house that's on fire; at that point it belongs to my insurance company. If the fire department can save my insurance company money, more power to them. If not, I'll start over on their dime.
I just went through this exercise in October. My house wasn't on fire, but I thought I had about an hour to get out before the Santiago fire cut off my escape.
I think the order that I packed things was something like this:
1. Laptop
2. External hard drive
3. CDs (lots of out of print, hard to replace stuff)
4. File drawer from my desk
5. Dresser drawers (easy stuff to replace, but inconvenient to be without)
6. Futon and blankets
7. Wine collection (Didn't want to fight with the insurance company over its value)
8. A few family heirlooms that happened to be near the garage.
The S didn't make the list.

I would rush down to the Family room, grab my 4 Volks, rush back to the garage, install all 4 wheels on the "S",in a hurry, put it on the ground, and, drive it out of the garage,in a big Hurry...
