might be my age but I find a dedicated GPS is a better idea BIGGER SCREEN Having said that we have had good luck with Garmin products and have them for all the vehicles
In addition, phone GPS apps require a data connection, whereas a dedicated GPS has all the data built in. Therefore, using a phone as a GPS, unless you have an unlimited data plan, could cost you quite a bit. my2¢

I have a Tom Tom Via 1605 with a nice big screen. No advertisements like other brands. I like the dedicated function of the thing. It clearly gives you lane guidance and other driving features you cannot get on a phone. I paid $160 at Costco. There is an antenna built into the power cord so you get traffic updates. I can store all my favorite destinations in it or use its data base for stuff on the road. Its the best app going.I had a TomTom before I got my BMW and loved it. Now I use it in my Jeep to find my detailing customers.

I like the gooseneck mount. Where did you buy it? Does it attach to the seat mounting bolt?
I purchased it from Amazon. I went for a specific mount that included the attachments for my Tom Tom. The thing mounts on the floor using a seat bolt. It has a U shaped piece that slides under a loosened bolt that secures a seat. (no need to remove the bolt) I used the pax seat bolt closest to the transmission hump. (I also happen to use the McGard anti seat theft bolts) The gooseneck is really an aluminum round bar that you can shape as desired. I made a gentle "S" so it would rest a little against the tunnel (to help minimize vibration and keep it out of the way) and not interfere with the radio door or shifting. The only thing is the plastic cover for the bolt does not fit well after the install. Not a big deal as the driver side does not have the covers at all. Looks fine.

I found a mobile phone holder at Wal Mart and screwed on an extra mount piece that came with the unit so I could have that for my phone when I am not traveling and using the Tom Tom. It does not vibrate and does not move. Once you put it in the desired position, it is going to stay there.

This is a link to a post I did on it some time ago.
