Iran
All of a sudden there seems to be a great deal of talk about Iran and it's nuclear weapons capability. Colin Powell mentioned Iran this week as did President Bush. Iran, allegedly, is working on its nuclear weapons. What do you think Mr. Bush will do about this? What do you think he should do?

Is this a rhetorical question?
I have read and heard much mention of Iran, their possible nuclear waspons progam, and the fact that the administration has taken notice of this in the last couple of days. I wanted to see if others, including you, had noticed this. I wanted to see what everyone thought of it, and what everyone that Mr. Bush's path would be.
And, I thought it would make for an interesting discussion.
I was trying to be slightly sarcastic.
Yes, I have heard of it in the news lately...it's risen above the noise floor and seems to be taking on the same character as Iraq did before we got mired in that hellhole. I can only hope that the bushies aren't that dumb to ty another one of these ill-fated tricks. Confidence in that is not high. There's oil there in Iran isn't there?

Oh My God...ludedude.....similarity is uncanny....glad to know someone thinks like me.
I think we will be in war with Iran within less than a year in time. Armaggedon.......it's all written in Bible.
Mid East countries will attach Israel since it is biggest US interest next to Oils in Mid East. That is when all nation will merge to fight and you know the rest of the story.....
Time to consider moving to Canada?

[OnlyPartiallySarcastic] I think an Iran invasion is a likely agenda item for this administration. They'll need it to deflect the public's attention from the staggering deficit which will be achieved during this period. [/OnlyPartiallySarcastic]
The last time Iran was considered a threat to us, our government supported (financially and militarily) Saddam Hussein as a counterbalance in the region.
Oh, wait, I guess we'll have to try something different this time...

Iran has always been the second step in the long term game plan.
The largest oil reserves in the world sit off Turkmenistan in the Caspian Sea. Turkmenistan has one of the most hostile governments in the world and is a former Soviet republic. (Hence, not a place you'd want to invade without strong reinforcement.)
The plan has always been to first invade Iraq and install a friendly government there. The next step was to invade Iran (Had the Iraq war gone better, we'd already be there. Am I the only one who remembers Rumsfeld talking about invading Iran right after our initial assault on Iraq seemed so overwhelmingly successful?)
Once Iraq and Iran are secured (and their ample oil reserves as well) we would be in a much better position to dictate terms to Turkmenistan, or they would suffer the same fate. Those three countries could supply us with enough oil for the next 100 years. Without it, we're going to have to significantly change our economy away from an oil based one. Remember, despite our relatively small size in the world, (Less than 300 million of nearly 5 billion... well under 10%) we still consume over 40% of the oil being used.
I'll quote a wise granny: Until the pain of remaining the same outweighs the pain of change, we won't change.
Bush thinks he has a "mandate" (read "blank check") to do whatever he wants now. An invasion of Iran is definitely on the horizon. Unfortunately for Dubya, they're complying with the UN demands, so we'll just have to find a different excuse to invade Ira... er... 'scuse me, I meant "liberate" Iran.
