I'm afraid my poor Nats aren't going to do as well this year as they did the start of last year. No owner announced yet (although soon) which is really hurting recruiting for the team. We are in dire need of good pitchers, and are plagued by injuries already. Anywho, I'm ready to watch some baseball. The +1 and I are going to the Nats/Yankees game in June. Looking forward to that!

It is indeed time to talk about baseball. I am hoping Yankees will go all the way this year. Let's see if Yankees have the mettles for this year.

Things are looking up right now for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (they must be, they can't get any worse).

I lived in Boulder when the old Denver Bears morphed into the Rockies, and it was quite an exciting time -- for a while there, they were selling out the old Mile-High Stadium in its baseball configuration, before Coors Field was built.

So I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Rocks. Unfortunately, that word -- soft -- is a pretty good descriptor of their entire roster. I fear they'll be the doormat once again.

Meanwhile, down here in Ya-Ya land, the Fish have gone through one of their owner's periodic purges and are trying to rebuild. It's cool that an ex-Rock is now the manager, though, and that should be interesting. But, well, it doesn't look good from the pennant race perspective. Sigh. HPH

Hey, HPH, I was a student in Boulder that time too. Used to listen to the Denver
Bears games on the radio. Remember Star Yellond? He was the sports broadcaster of the era in Denver -- broadcast the Colorado Buffalo games, too. The Bears were a Yankee farm team. You will remember there was a pitcher named Ryan Duran (sp?), who threw smoking fastballs at over a hundred mph. He then went up to the Yankees and pitched in the World Series. He would sometimes strike out a dozen or more batters in a row. They used him as a closer -- you can't throw that hard for very long. Was blind as a bat. Had inch thick spectacles. The opposing batters were scared hitless that he was going to kill them, but they stood in there and went down swinging.

To get current , Nick and I will be going to see the Astros soon. They opened last weekend here in Houston, but Nick had a Little League conflict, so we missed it. They don't have Roger Clemens this year, but their pitching staff is still strong. Last year was the first time ever that the Stros got to the World Series. But they weren't able to win a single game. They won their opening game this year with Oswald pitching, but Pettite got slaughtered in the second game...

I don't want to hear ANY crying from anyone. I have 1 returning regular from last years team and only 2 everyday players that have seen over 20 games in the bigs.

I was VERY happy Tuesday night when my Marlins won their first game. That means they can not lose ALL 162 ball games this year!!!!!

It's us and the Royals battling for the WORST record in the bigs this year!! I am betting it's us.

The TV schedule really sucks here, too. There has been an ogoing fight between Comcast and Peter Angelos (long story) over Nats broadcast rights. Another thing that has not gotten resolved yet. Since I have Comcast, I have to go over to my parents' house to see some games (they have Cox). There are a few on - tonight, for instance. But it is really frustrating.

I went to my second game of the season last night. Mariners are 3-1 and in first place in their division. Yeah, yeah, I know ... but I don't think they were ever above .500 or in first place at all last year, so I'm enjoying this as long as it lasts.
