Gilbert Gottfried, whom I listen to regularly (via podcast), always speaks of two things: 1.) Lewis' early repertoire is comedic canon. 2.) After he clearly established himself, Lewis takes himself way too seriously and is completely insufferable. For that, I tend to strongly agree. . . yeah, don't like him.

I liked his movies. It was the silly, moronic slapstick that reminded me of some of the funnymen from the past. I didn't so much like him on the telethons or in later life. I know he raised a lot of money for
"his" kids but I couldn't help but feel the telethons were more about him than anything else.
